Wenceslao Casares is co-CEO of Bling Nation mobile payment company he founded in 2007 and partner Meck, Ltd, a private investment company.
In June 2002 he founded Lemon Bank, a Brazilian retail bank for the poor. Lemon Bank became the largest microfinance institution in Brazil and was acquired by the Banco do Brasil in 2009.
He is also the founder of Wanako Games, a developer of video game consoles based in the U.S. that seeks to promote the creativity of Latin American talent. The company won the "Game of the Year" for Xbox Live in 2006 and was acquired by Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ: ATVI).
In 1997 Casares founded Patagon an online broker. As the Company expanded throughout Latin America, Casares lived in Sao Paulo, Mexico City, and New York. The company also expanded into online banking in Spain and Germany. Patagon was the first online broker and bank in Latin America. It was sold to Spanish bank Santander (NYSE: STD).
In 1994 Casares launched Internet Argentina SA, the first Internet service provider in the country. Then he sold that company to create Patagon. Casares was born in 1974 on a sheep ranch in Patagonia, Argentina. At 17, he spent a year in Washington, Pennsylvania, as a member of the program of Rotary Youth Exchange. He then attended the University of San Andrés, one of the leading business schools in Argentina, however, he interrupted his studies to begin Patagon.
In 1998 he was selected as Endeavor Entrepreneur, an international nonprofit organization dedicated to identifying, supporting and promoting the next generation of
leading entrepreneurs in emerging markets. He is an elected member of Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum for Tomorrow (GLT), and attends Davos since 2001. He is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization and has completed the Program for Management Owner and Presidents at Harvard Business School.
As part of its philanthropy and nonprofit, he serves on the board of the Living Trust and currently is a member of the board of Endeavor. He also created the Fundación Synthesis in order to inspire the next generation of social and political leaders in Latin America.
