UDRP -RED/ODR- Regional Initiative Program for Electronic Dispute Resolution was presented ILCE
This initiative proposes the implementation of a dispute resolution center of regional character, to disputes over domain names. This center will also provide services for addressing disputes arising in the Digital Economy in the region for the RED / ODR.
The proposal will allow the proper channeling and conflict management from the use of Internet; will provide best practices and legal frameworks for the Digital Economy; improve access of citizens and SMEs in the region to these efficient mechanisms will provide new opportunities for Latin American professionals, and ultimately will contribute to building trust in the regional Digital Economy.
First, the initiative was presented by Mark Pueyrredón, President of ILCE and Gabriela Szlak, Director of RED / ODR ILCE Regional Programme, under the "elevator pitch" to the first Assembly PLATA , Argentina's technology platform Internet Future last October 6, 2011 in Cassará Foundation in Buenos Aires. The Assembly was held in the framework of the ICT Forum, organized by the Liaison Office Argentina European Union (ABEST) and by the Project Proideal Plus. 's presentation can be viewed here.
Second, the initiative was submitted by Celia Lerman, an attorney specializing in Intellectual Property and Academic Coordinator of the UDRP Initiative in Seminar on " New Trends in Trademark Law "at the University Torcuato Di Tella, on October 19, 2011, before an audience of specialists. On the UDRP (Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy):
The UDRP is the consistent policy of the world organization ICANN to resolve conflicts through online arbitration involving domain names. Only four conflict resolution centers accredited by ICANN to apply the UDRP, and none of them are in Latin America. Hence the importance of ILCE initiative, which seeks to replicate the experience of these centers, but so glocalized generating center easy access to approach this kind of conflict in Latin America, suited to the needs of the region.
Furthermore, this initiative is part of the Regional Program ILCE Electronics resolution , which leads the development and implementation of flexible services designed to meet the needs of consumers and businesses in the region with respect to disputes arising in Electronic Commerce and Business Online and Mobile and the Digital Economy in the region.
ILCE Participation in ICANN
Celia Lerman represent the ILCE and Univeridad Torcuato Di Tella as fellow in the next ICANN meeting to be held from 23 to 28 October in Dakar, Senegal, and take the initiative to UDRP ILCE over 500 experts worldwide. In December last year, Szlak ILCE represented also as fellow at the ICANN meeting in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia , first presenting the project to the ICANN Public Forum.
The next ICANN meeting will focus on the most challenging issues currently of Internet domain names, including new gTLDs domain and its complex implementation process.
